The basic functions and requirements of the cylinder head The cylinder head is located above the engine block. The main function is to close the upper part of the cylinder and form a combustion chamber with the top of the piston and the cylinder block.In addition, the cylinder head also carries the role of installing the intake and exhaust valve seats and valve guide holes, as well as injectors, water temperature sensors, knock sensors and other components.Therefore, the cylinder head needs to have sufficient strength and stiffness to withstand the high temperature and high pressure working environment, but also needs to have good sealing and heat conduction properties.

The choice of cylinder head material The choice of cylinder head material directly affects its performance and service life.At present, the commonly used cylinder head materials are mainly gray cast iron, alloy cast iron and aluminum alloy.

1. Gray cast iron: Gray cast iron has good casting performance and damping performance, and low cost, so it is widely used in some engines with low performance requirements.However, the poor heat resistance and corrosion resistance of gray cast iron limit its application in high-performance engines.

2. Alloy cast iron: Alloy cast iron improves the strength and heat resistance of the material by adding alloying elements, and is suitable for medium and high-performance engines.Its casting performance is good and the cost is moderate, so it is more common in practical applications.

3. Aluminum alloy: Aluminum alloy cylinder heads have the advantages of light weight, good thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, etc., especially suitable for high-performance engines.However, the casting process of aluminum alloy is more demanding and the cost is relatively high.

When choosing cylinder head materials, factors such as engine performance requirements, working environment, cost and manufacturing technology need to be considered comprehensively.
